So many in fact that I had to go home and do some research on chai. I wanted what the benefits would be. Also, I wanted to find out if there are drawbacks. Finally, what are the best Chai Tea brands out there.

What is the History of Chai Tea?

Chai Tea has been around for centuries. It is native to India and was originally made with black tea, cardamom, cloves, ginger, and black peppercorn. The word chai actually just means “tea” in many parts of the world. In India, chai is often served roadside in small clay cups. The tea is very strong and sweetened with condensed milk
Over time, Chai Tea has evolved. Even the Indian version mentioned above had an evolution. Masala Chai has seven components: water, tea leaves, milk, sugar, cardamom, black pepper and ginger. The west adapted chai drinks and hence came along chai lattes which are more herbal and spicier milk versions of the popular beverage.

Are There Health Benefits To Chai Tea?

Yes, chai tea does have some health benefits Chai Tea is good for your digestion because of the spices that are used to make it. Cloves, cardamom, black pepper, and ginger all help with various digestive issues like nausea, bloating, and gas. If you’re feeling a little under the weather, chai tea can be a great way to settle your stomach.

The antioxidants present in black tea can also help boost your immune system and protect your cells from damage. And because chai tea typically contains less caffeine than coffee, it can be a great way to get an energy boost without the jitters.
Chai tea is also a good source of manganese, potassium, and magnesium.

Manganese helps your body process choline, which is important for healthy brain and nerve function. Potassium is an electrolyte that helps regulate blood pressure and heart rate. And magnesium plays a role in energy production, bone health, and muscle function.

Are There Risks to Drinking Chai Tea?

Although chai tea has some health benefits, there are also a few things to be aware of before you start drinking it regularly.
First, chai tea usually contains sugar, which can have negative effects if you consume too much of it. Too much sugar can lead to weight gain, cavities, and an increased risk of type 2 diabetes.

Second, chai tea typically contains dairy, which means it’s not suitable for people who are lactose intolerant or have a dairy allergy. If you’re unsure whether you’re allergic to dairy, it’s best to speak to a doctor before trying chai tea.

Finally, chai tea often contains caffeine. Although the amount of caffeine in chai tea is usually lower than the amount in coffee, it can still have some side effects if you drink too much of it. Caffeine can cause insomnia, anxiety, and headaches.

So, if you’re looking to incorporate chai tea into your diet, be sure to do so in moderation. And if you have any concerns about whether chai tea is right for you, be sure to speak to a doctor or registered dietitian.
